Mid Lincs U9 B Div

Under 9s Review
Going into their first season of competitive football the Under 9s were placed in the ‘B’ League which the management team was a little apprehensive about, believing it to be a division too high. One new signing had been made at the start of the season with Joseph Howard joining the club but by the end, two further players joined, namely Drew Hilton and Lenny Watkins. These players enhanced the side giving it a good mix in all positions and by the end of the campaign the team was a force to be reckoned with.
September
The season got off to a losing start with a 2-0 reverse at Birchwood who went on to finish in the top three - League position 9/11
October
October opened with the team suffering their worst defeat of the season, as another top side, Hykeham Tigers inflicted a 9-0 home defeat. It was the last time the side would fail to score in a league match. The game was Liam McWilliams last for the club as he moved to the Falklands with his parents. The first win came in the next game and saw a first clean sheet as Ruskington were beaten 4-0. They would go on to finish the season without picking up a point. Daniel Lindsey and Ethan Thompson both found the net and would contest the ‘leading scorers’ label. The League Cup draw proved unkind with ‘A’ side ‘champions elect’, Nettleham being the opponents and a 6-0 defeat followed. The remainder of October saw the first away win, a 4-1 victory at North Lindum Hawks and a 6-1 home win against Mablethorpe. Daniel Lindsey scored the first league hat-trick for the side at NLH and, not to be outdone, Ethan Thompson bagged one for himself against Mablethorpe. Three wins in the month saw the management team collect the monthly Manager’s award along with Daniel Lindsey picking up the Monthly Golden Boot Award League position 4/11
November
Only one game was played in November as Winter arrived early and this saw a narrow 3-2 defeat at Welton League position 8/10
January
No games were played through the whole of December and the enforced ‘break’ ended with a home defeat against Greenbank, 4-2. Ethan Thompson mad his 50th club appearance in this game and in the following game Benjamin Whitehouse did likewise on the trip to Mablethorpe where the first league double was completed with a 4-3 win. League position 6/10
February
Having completed a double of their own in the last game they then suffered a ‘first’ double as Welton won 4-3 at Metheringham. Daniel Lindsey made his 50th appearance in this game. In the next game the side not only suffered a second league double but also their worst away defeat, 8-1 at Hykeham Tigers. This game was some introduction to the club for new signing Drew Hilton. The month closed at Sleaford and a 5-4 win saw the start of the best run of the season.
League position 7/10
March
March began with ‘double’ number two as North Lindum Hawks were beaten 4-3. It also saw the arrival of new signing Lenny Watkins who scored on debut. Daniel Lindsey also netted, his 50th for the club in 53 games. The second clean sheet was then record in the return game against Sleaford as a third double was completed with a 2-0 win. Perhaps one of the best wins of the season was recorded in the next game as highfliers Birchwood were beaten 1-0. After four wins in a row the month closed with champions elect HBW Utd narrowly winning 3-2. Both Kieran Pogson anf Levi Woolley made their 50th appearance. For the second occasion during the season the management team collected the Monthly Award League position 5/10

April
The final away game of the season at Greenbank saw Charlie Pogson complete his 50th appearance and also the team avenged their earlier reverse with a 5-3 win. League champions HBW Utd then became the third side to complete a league double with a 4-2. The side then completed their fourth double in the final game as they recorded their biggest ever league win and fourth clean sheet with a 14-0 win over bottom side Ruskington. The league’s bottom side conceded their 200th goal in this game. Daniel Lindsey netted five, to finish top scorer with 20 goals. Ethan Thompson scored four to finish on 17 goals and Lenny Watkins hit his first club hat-trick. Charlie Pogson even came out of goal to bag one of the other goals with brother Keiron getting the other. Final position 5/10

Twelve players were used during the season in the 19 games played with the Pogson brothers and Ben Whitehouse ever present. Missing just one game were Daniel Lindsey, Ethan Thompson and Levi Woolley. 61 goals were scored at an average of 3.2 per game while 58 were conceded. The best run was winning four in a row and the worst run was suffering just two consecutive defeats (on three occasions). After the apprehension at the head of the season the management team should be very pleased with how the season panned out.
